Elite Canadian canoe-kayak athletes will be in Sherbrooke at the end of summer 2018. More than 2,000 athletes from 40 clubs from across the country, including members of the Canadian Olympic Team, will meet on the Magog River at Lac des Nations. They will paddle in the most important national-level sprint races of the year: the Canadian Sprint Canoe-Kayak Championships and the Canadian Masters Championships.
These major events, at which large crowds are expected, are under the auspices of Canoe Kayak Canada, the national organization for competitive paddling. The City of Sherbrooke and the Club nautique de Sherbrooke are joint organizers of the 2018 competitions.
The success of these competitions relies on, among other things, the organizers’ experience: Sherbrooke hosted these same competitions in 2009, and in 2013, the Canada Games kayak races were also held on this same site. These races are the most important opportunity in Canada to highlight canoe-kayak athletes. By holding these events, the Club nautique de Sherbrooke will benefit from a significant legacy that will support regional athletes in the pursuit of their goals.
